The bilingual primary school

The primary School of our centre offers a unique programme, based on Maria Montessori’s philosophy and educational method, as well as on bilingual teaching in Italian and English.
The core of the programme is the child, whom Maria Montessori considered to be a complex ensemble, with physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs. Only by respecting these needs and the uniqueness of each child, and by giving them the chance to work and explore freely, children can actually grow up confident in themselves, independent and peaceful.

Maria Montessori believed that by creating an environment that is fit for the child, full of inputs and activities, and by providing them with the precise techniques needed to use development material, little ones could choose their occupations independently. She had noticed, that her children never had nothing to do, they would choose their own activities and, as soon as they were tired, they would change to something else.

The materials she has left us are the starting point of our didactic work.

Thanks to those, mathematics, as well as geometry or grammar which regulates the language, are not rigid subjects imposed from above. Letters, numbers and geometrical shapes, transform from mere concrete objects that one has to experiment, into actual concepts.

“The difficulties that many children have with maths are the signal of a bad educational process. When put into contact with the right materials, like Montessori’s, and when assigned tasks which require precision and exactness, children show a spontaneous attraction to mathematics and work with interest and focus.” M. Montessori

The bilingualism offered by our primary school, with native English teachers present 25 hours a week, not only guarantees the natural acquisition of a second language, but also gives children the possibility to open themselves to other cultures.
The bilingual environment furthermore favours the integration of children coming from foreign countries.
